Activities Community Garden: This will be the second summer for our Community Garden. The Community Garden includes growing vegetables for food banks and others in need, flowers for worship and shut ins, vegetable sales by the church school to support church school programs, and education programs about organic gardening and healthy eating. We plan a new perennial garden to be added this summer. Join us Sunday afternoons to share the joys of gardening. An old saying is that one is nearer to God in the garden than anywhere else on earth! Choir: We are excited about our choir and are eagerly making plans for special music and summer programming. Choir generally meets at 5:45 the first and fourth Thursdays of the month, and other times as needed. We welcome all to join our choir. Please double check rehearsal times through email to the choir director since they sometimes vary. Christmas Fair We are excited about having our first Christmas Fair in many years this year, on November 16th. Craft Workshops have begun, and knitters, crafters, cooks, bakers, and workers are needed. Email the Fair Chairperson for more information, or to offer donations. Bible Study: Bible Study meets each Thursday evening at 7pm at the home of one of our members. We choose varying topics - either a book of the Bible or a book about the Bible to read and study together. We have also watched videos such as the recent PBS series, From Jesus to Christ. All are welcome to join us; please contact the church for further information. Educational Programs: We seek to be an educational resource for the community and area. Through the fall we offered a series on World Religions, which will be repeated next summer. Beginning April 24th, from 7-9pm, at the Wilkins House, we will offer a course called "Bible 101." The course will consider questions such as: How did the Bible come to exist in the form we know it today? What are the historical and cultural contexts of the people and events of the Bible? How do all those stories we learned in Sunday School fit together? How do we meaningfully relate Bible stories to the events of our lives? Missions We seek outreach to the community and the world in many ways. We contributed nearly $1000 to Hope From the Rubble, the UCC's collection for the victims of the September 11th attacks, as well as several hundred dollars to Afghan refugees. We helped local families at Christmas and plan this year, for example, to raise food for food banks and others in need and to undertake a Church World Service CROP Walk. We understand mission as being an essential part of the work of the Body of Christ and are eager to join with others in this work.
